    “American’s had been squirreling” Americans?

    A harrowing and grim cautionary tale. The ending felt rather abrupt. Premise reminded me of The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. A morality play about the potential horrific consequences of allowing utilitarian values to supersede valuing justice.
